The Benefits (and Beauty) of Using a Paper Planner

You may think that with all the apps available, you don’t really need a paper planner. However, many people still use planners as a way to keep track of their to-do list and upcoming appointments. Why? There are actually several great reasons to use a paper planner. Not only is it convenient, but you can have fun with it, too. Let’s take a closer look.Paper Day PlannerIt’s More Convenient

A paper planner is so much more convenient than an app. Why? First of all, you can quickly jot things down. You can also quickly find what you’re looking for and make changes as needed. More importantly, it’s easy to look ahead and see what’s coming up. You also don’t have to deal with your planner timing out and cutting off if you’ve been looking at it for a while.

It’s Always Available

If you’re out running errands and grab your phone only to find a dead battery, it can completely throw off your day. With a paper planner, you don’t have to worry about dead batteries or apps that crash. You also don’t have to worry about the planner deciding to fail and erasing all your appointments and to-do lists.

Paper PlannerIt’s Easier to Remember Something When You Write It Down

When you take the time to write things down, it helps you remember it. Just the act of writing it down embeds it into your memory. You may find that you don’t check your planner for certain things because you remember it. Also, when you have a physical planner, it’s easier to remember to look at it. There’s a good chance that you might have the best intentions when using an app, but then never check it.

It’s Easier to See Everything

Another great reason to use a paper planner is that it’s easier to see everything. You can open up the planner for the week and see your to-do list, appointments for each day of the week, notes, etc. With most apps, you’ll need to click on each day and then scroll through to see everything. It can really be annoying, especially if you’re trying to determine when to schedule additional items.

You Can Decorate It

Paper planners can be so much fun. If you’re not familiar with happy planning, check out YouTube. There are so many fun ways you can decorate your planner to personalize it. It’s actually a fun, relaxing activity.

Hello CarrieElle,

Thanks for article on using paper planners. I just bought a planner today. I agree that, yes, there are so many apps out there for planning and I do use Evernote some, but I still like to write things down by hand. And I’m already an arts/crafts person, so decorating and embellishing it won’t be a problem if I choose to. At this point, I want to simply get in the habit of making entries and notes on a daily basis; even on the weekends (I often forget what I did with my time, when and where.) I’m sure I will, however, add some meaningful and fun embellishments to my planner as I go along. I also use a digital calendar (Google, in my case) because I always need the pop-up notifications and reminders.
