This year, my son decided he wanted a paintball party for his birthday. We’d never thrown a paintball party before, and he’d never actually gone paintballing, but we found a local place to host it (I’ll share that info below in case you’re in the Dallas area!) and invited a handful of friends. I made these printable paintball party invitations to give to his friends and I thought I’d share them here with you guys, too.

So, apparently there are many kinds of paintball experiences, from ones in the wildnerness with paintball guns that will bruise you for a week to indoor facilities with less powerful paintball guns that even a (brave) child can play. We chose the latter.

We went to GatSplat in Rowlett. The kids each got a protective suit (optional, but who are we kidding here!) with goggles, a paintball gun, and a bunch of paintballs. The “field” is indoors and not very big. There were other parties there, and the groups took turns playing different games. Basically, if you get shot, you’re out, and the last wo/man standing wins. Then the group moves out, gets a drink of water and refills their ammo while another group plays, and then does it all again.

We had a table and ordered pizza (the local Papa John’s has a really great coupon for GatSplat parties), ate some cake, and drank some drinks between rounds. The experience was very controlled and extremely safety-conscious. The kids LOVED it. Also, the grown-ups loved it, too. Our party was small and the dads ended up playing as well.

The paintballs stung, even though the paintball guns shot much softer than a normal paintball gun. There were some mild bruises. I think the minimum age is six. My daughter, who is eight, played, but she was kind of scared! My kids could/would not have done this if they were younger but you’ll have to know your own kid to determine if they can handle it or not. For a party of 11-year-olds, it was perfect.
