If you follow me on Instagram, you know that Claire’s birthday was in July. We normally celebrate with a big pool party or get-together at our house, but this year that just wasn’t a possibility (helllllo, pandemic). Another thing we’ve done a few times in the past is to celebrate Claire’s birthday at a lunch party at the American Girl store in Dallas, but again – just not in the cards this year. However! We did get to do an American Girl Pick-Up party, and I want to share that with you guys because it’s an easy, fun, and affordable (yes, I said American Girl and affordable in the same sentence) party option that’s now available, and I think you’re going to love it.
Here’s what an American Girl Pick-Up Party is All About
In the past, I’ve taken Claire (and her doll, aunt, and two grandmothers) to the American Girl Bistro for a birthday lunch celebration. These are a lot of fun. Going into the store is super cool (so. many. dolls.), and the Bistro food has always been excellent.
But now you can throw an American Girl party at home. American Girl was kind enough to give us this experience so I could share it with you guys here!
Instead of going into the store, you can pick up everything you need to throw a party in the comfort (and safety) of your own home.
You can visit the website for more information here (this is the Dallas store, just choose your closest store at the top of the page to see what’s offered and scroll down to the pick-up party options).
What’s Included in the Party
You’ll receive the following items for your party: a super cute (and delicious) cake, digital invitations, American Girl-themed goody bag and take-home craft for each guest, doll crown and doll-sized cup and saucer for each guest, a birthday crown and special gift for the birthday girl.
They can also accomodate dietary needs!

How much does the American Girl Pick-Up Party Cost?
The cost is $20/person and is available for groups of 2-20. The in-store parties cost about twice that per person (although they also include food and some other events). So, I think this is a super good deal and a really attainable way to throw an American Girl party without breaking the budget.
What ages are the parties for?
Parties start for ages 3+ (in fact, I think it was Claire’s 3rd birthday when I took her to pick out a Bitty Baby!). The party we did was the Deluxe Take-Home Celebration, which is recommended for girls 8+. The parties offered all have recommended ages so you can pick the one that is most suitable for your child.
What’s Included in the Goody Bags?
The goody bags exceeded out expectations! They were so fun. I don’t want to ruin the surprise, but you can see everything that was included below. Along with a doll-sized crown, plate and cup (dolls need cake, too), the goody bags included:
- hair-ties (one for the doll, one for the child)
- take-home DIY bracelet craft
- doll shirt
- doll balloon (that they can hold, of course)
- bracelet with a little charm
- doll-sized toy present.
I was very pleased with the whole experience. It was seamless, easy, and the girls LOVED their goody bags (and I loved the cake, so there’s also that).
