Update: This post is a few year’s old – my youngest just finished Kinder! But it’s still one of my most popular posts, and we use these first day of school printables every year – enjoy!
Eeeeek! My oldest is starting kindergarten this year. Kind of a big deal around here!
So OF COURSE I will be making him take excessive amounts of pictures on his first day of school, and OF COURSE I wanted to make him a cute little sign that he could hold on the first day of school every.single.year until he graduates high school (I’m sure he’ll be a great sport about it, right?!). And then, I have a three-year-old starting pre-k in the fall, and I didn’t want her to be left out, soo…I made her one, too.
And these First Day of School printables are yours to print out and use, too! 🙂
(Be sure to get the matching Last Day of School printables here, too)
You could (in theory) print one out and use it for 12 years. Just frame it and fill in the grade and teacher info with a dry-erase marker over the glass. Of course, I couldn’t find a dry-erase marker when I needed one, so I wrote directly on the page…and that would be fine too! You don’t need a frame. Print out several and just fill in the info and have your kid hold it – no need to be fancy!
Just click on the images below to download the printable (or printables!) of your choice.
If you use these, send me a picture – I’ll share on Facebook and Twitter! 🙂

I always have good intentions for first day of school festivities, and then when it actually arrives I end up running around like a crazy lady, trying to find missing shoes, the new backpacks that had became toy collectors and seriously, where did the hair brush go?!! It’s become tradition to be late on the first day over here :p
I’m trying to get the kids ready for day camps they are starting tomorrow, and I feel totally unorganized and like a crazy lady – I feel ya on that! And Kindergarten here starts at 7:30 AM, which is basically the land before time around here. I’m barely functioning at 7:30 and I’ll have to get a kid to school by then?! No thank you!
7:30?!!! That’s insane! I thought 8:30 was bad sheesh! We have to be out the door by 8:10 and my kids are falling out of bed at 7:55 :p
OMG I can’t even wrap my head around a 7:30 start time. I will let you know how it goes!
Super-adorable, Carrie! Thanks for sharing! 🙂
You’re welcome, Aubrey!
Love these printables.

Right?! Awesome, I mean, SAD! lol. Thanks for sharing!
These are so adorable! I LOVE the ‘chalkboard’ like one (pinning). Though I don’t want my baby girl to grow up too fast I do look forward to taking the first day of school photos 🙂
Thank you! And I know what you mean…growing up is such a bittersweet experience, for the kids and for us!
Sooooo loving these printables! I’ve been using a chalkboard for the past 2 years – the same one, but this idea is so cute and easy!!!
I love the idea of an actual chalkboard – how cute is that?!

Hi Shivani! Email me at [email protected] and I can send you the downloads! 🙂 Sometimes people can’t access them because their IP address doesn’t allow it (or something technical like that), but I am always happy to send them over! 🙂
