My kids received two complimentary swim lessons from Sunsational Swim School. All opinions are my own.
We spend a lot of time at the pool, and while that should be fun, it’s actually pretty stressful.
For me, anyway. The kids don’t seem to stress. But I do. When you have a strong-willed child who is known for her sudden disappearing acts, it’s hard to relax in large, crowded bodies of water, you know what I mean?
At this point, both kids are capable enough swimmers. Jack can touch the bottom of the pool, and Claire can doggie paddle like the best of them. But I want them to be strong swimmers.
The kids have taken swim lessons three times now. Once through an outside organization that came to our local pool, another time through a local swim school, and most recently with Sunsational Swim School.
What I like is that the instructor came to us (at our community pool). You sign up for lessons online (there are locations all over the country – you can see them all here). Instructors are certified and background checked, and are matched to the student’s ability.
Our instructor, Olivia, was fantastic with my kids. This was especially true for our second lesson, when my darling six-year-old was being, shall we say…quite contrary. Olivia had fun games planned for the kids and worked on some swimming technique with both of them. Jack got to work on his stroke, and was even able to swim across the pool on his own (actually swimming, not stopping and standing three times – I was so excited for him!).
I loved that she taught skills in an age-appropriate manner. Both of my kids took away new swimming skills, and Jack especially seems excited to keep practicing.
After our last lesson, she gave the kids a certificate of completion.
While the kids were taking lessons, a lady at the pool came up and asked me about the lessons. She said she was trying to become a better swimmer, and wanted some lessons for herself. This type of one-on-one training isn’t just for kids…I think it’s also great for adults.
Lesson prices are comparable to what I paid at a local swim school. The bonus to this, of course, is that I only had to drive to our closest neighborhood pool!
It will still be awhile yet before I can totally relax at the pool, but I definitely feel more at ease after watching the kids complete these lessons.
