You know what I really wish I was good at, but I’m not? Makeup. I love makeup! I want to buy ALL THE MAKEUP, even though I’m not all that good at actual makeup application. Which is why I think it’s really, really awesome that Emily is here today to share her simple smoky eye makeup tutorial with us. She makes it look so easy. Be sure to check out her site for makeup and fashion at The Simply Obvious.
The Smokey eye is a sexy and sophisticated look and it can be changed around in many different ways. I am continually changing it up to make it fit the occasion. They aren’t too hard to do. All you have to do is get the basic idea. You can start out simple and work your way up. It is all about practice. Soon enough you will be able to do all the makeup in the world. Smokey eyes are great for any occasion because you can change-up the colors to match your killer outfit or your sassy mood. I generally like to go with more neutral colors but have been known to try others, including purple and blue. I think that if you start with neutrals you can eventually become more risky the colors. That’s why I wanted to start with neutrals. The best thing about smoky eyes is you don’t need a whole lot of colors to do it! I like to use about four colors. Your highlight color, the lid color, a second upper lid color, and a darker color to create that smoky look.Just follow these five steps and you will be able to do a smokey eye in no time!
Start by highlighting the inner corners of your eyes with a lightly colored eye shadow. I used a Maybelline shadow that was a white sparkly color. You also should highlight right underneath your eyebrow. You can use almost any brush with this and will get the exact same effect. See the picture below.
So for this part you are going to need one color for you lid. For this I chose a very light brown color, it almost matches my skin color so it makes it really hard to see. This color is from the naked 2 pallet. I love this pallet by the way, it is pricey but worth every penny!
Ok so now comes the smoky eye part. You are going to want to draw one line for this. Do this using an eyeliner brush. Follow your furthest eyelash up about 3/4 of you lid. You are then going to add a swipe of a lighter brown than the one you just used. This one should have some sparkle in it to. Makes it a little more fun! By now you should look very funky with a lot of colors that are not blended or look good together. That’s what the next step is for
So now you need to blend. Take you favorite blending brush and mix all those eye shadow colors together. You may need to add some more eye shadow using those two lid colors that we used before. Keep blending until everything is all combined and there are no harsh lines. I also added a little bit of gold in the middle just for fun.
5. Finishing touches
I always like to add a winged liner to the look. I think it just finishes it off. Add your mascara and you are all set! You can wear this anywhere.
I hope that you all like the look!
And your done!!
A few Tips:
Make sure that you are doing each step to both eyes. Trust me doing one eye then the other never works. You will most likely not end up getting the same look. Make sure your eyes are always looking the same. It’s hard to go back and do the other eye after doing the first one.
Don’t be afraid to add a little more color. It always is fun to maybe add a hint of pink into those neutral colors. Experiment. You can also completely change the colors! It’s all up to you!
Have fun with makeup. Makeup is a lot of fun. You can do whatever reflects how you are feeling so make sure its you. If you don’t feel like it, don’t do it. Try something else. Always remember, you can pull of the sexy smokey eye
