When my son was born, I knew I’d be going back to work. I also knew that I’d be changing up my work life quite a bit. With an hour commute (each way! and that was without traffic!), childcare was a huge concern – and I ended up taking several months off and then returning to work part-time, and mostly from home.
And you know what? It was hard!
Even with a flexible, part-time schedule and in-home childcare provided by a family member for the first year of his life, I still had a hard time making it all work.
If I had to go back today, I’d have to get licensed again (I was an insurance broker) and completely overhaul my resume and polish my interview skills and…you get the idea. It would be a huge undertaking.
I’ve partnered with Mom Corps YOU to share information with you about the resources they offer to working moms. Whether or not you’re currently working, thinking about re-entering the workforce, or even just increasing your hours, Mom Corps YOU can help.
Mom Corps YOU is an online community designed to support professional moms trying to balance parenthood and their career. Created by Mom Corps, a national award-winning professional talent acquisition and career development firm, Mom Corps YOU is the perfect resource for moms headed back to work.
Mom Corps YOU knows that it’s important to be prepared for re-entering the workforce…and they know that if you have kids, a lot of extra effort is going to be needed! Here are some of the resources they have geared specifically to moms getting back to their careers:
- Recorded Webinar (so you can watch at your leisure, yay!): Top Tips from Recruiters
- Recorded Webinar: Ready, Set, Go – A Game Plan for Relaunching Your Career
- eBook: Learning LinkedIn From the Experts
- Upcoming Webinar: Own Your Career – Returning to Work Later, What to Do Now
Every time I log on to Mom Corps YOU, I find something awesome to learn about. Right now, I’m digging into the eBook about LinkedIn. I spend very little time on LinkedIn, and yet I’ve been contacted – multiple times – with job leads through my LinkedIn account, from people I know and also random people in the same industry I used to work in. It’s definitely worth learning more about, and I love that I found this resource through Mom Corps YOU!
There is also a forum to chat with other moms who are in a similar spot in their lives. But I think the most awesome feature is the ability to chat online with a recruiter. What a fabulous way to ask questions and get real-time advice for your own unique situation!
Right now, I’m blogging professionally and starting up a small business, as well. Not quite the same as getting back to my previous career, but the challenges are just as real. So far, I’ve found tools for managing my time, balancing relationships (it’s hard to find time for the husband!), improving my social media presence, and even resources for small business owners on Mom Corps YOU.
Getting back to work is challenging enough as it is. Make sure you have the tools available to make your transition as successful and stress-free as possible!
Have you gone back to work after staying home with the kids? What did you struggle with?
