I received a Jord watch to facilitate this Jord watch review. It’s the first watch I’ve owned in over ten years, and I’m hoping it will help me put my phone down! Read on for more…
Back in the old days (like 2004, yo), I had a watch. At the time I was teaching horseback riding lessons and riding horses for people (lots of horses, sometimes six a day), and I needed to know what time it was to keep on schedule. My phone at the time was a clunky flip phone, and while it was small, it wasn’t convenient to keep it in my pocket. Of course, I wore it on a clip at my hip, but when you’re riding horses or teaching kids how to ride, you just can’t be bumbling with your phone all the time.
When we moved to Texas I stopped teaching and eventually got an iPhone, which was a game changer – and soon became my new method for telling time.
To be honest, though, I don’t like feeling so tied to my phone. When I pick my phone up to check the time, I see that I’ve missed a text message or three. I feel compelled to check my email. I have a Facebook message that I feel like I NEED to answer right.that.second. I might check the weather, or remember that I need to send some pictures to a friend, or…you get the idea. Checking my phone for the time is NEVER just checking my phone for the time.
A couple weeks ago, I finally got my first watch in at least ten years, and you guys…it’s made out of wood!
Jord watches are all wooden, which is so cool. It’s beautiful to look at, and from the second I opened the box I could tell this was a high-quality product. I chose the Fieldcrest – Zebrawood and Maple, which I consider to have a medium-sized face. They make watches of all sizes, for men and women (what a unique Mother’s Day or Father’s Day gift!).
Probably my favorite thing about it is how it marries form and function. It’s gorgeous, but it’s also a really nice watch. I can tell time with it, and at the same time feel like I have something pretty on my wrist.
And the real reason I was excited about getting a watch again – for the ability to check the time without looking at my phone or looking for a clock – is being realized. I forgot how handy it is to have a watch!
You can find Jord wooden watches online – you can even chat with a service rep while looking at the site if you have any questions.
