Working out – we all know that it can be done. Even with busy schedules, breastfeeding babes, sleep deprived toddlers and non athletic mamas. We need to write fitness into the rules for our lives! It’s a necessity.
For many, fitness wasn’t something you had to schedule before kids. You had the time and energy to pick up and head to the gym or go for a long hike. You could bike, jog, play tennis all on your own time. Now that there are children in the mix, we are sapped. Our energy goes to almost everyone and everything else. Physical activities, aside from picking up legos or running into bedrooms at midnight to lull the babes to sleep, are not on the radar. When we live our lives this way we are sluggish. We need to be refreshed and able to focus our quality time with our family.
Here are some tips that will have you working out – like a mother!
Do it early: Practice in the quietness before the house wakes up.
Keep your self-health appointment: Schedule your workout into your calendar, chances are you will show up and get it done.
Take time: We all have chunk of unused time during the day. Skip the pinterest vortex and Facebook scroll and put those minutes to work! Your body will love you!
How will you sweat today? Plan what workout you will do on a specific day! Use an app or exercise calendar to make it that much easier for you.
Workout clothes don’t make you workout harder! Don’t worry about your workout clothes. Lay out your clothes the night before. Eliminating choices is super helpful, especially when getting up at 5am to get your workout in.
Lunch it: Use your lunch break to workout. Either choosing a 30 minute brisk walk with a co-worker or heading to your office gym. Both will in help you get your workout in and wont impact the rest of your day.

Use the playground as your personal FREE gym: Use swings for leg lifts, mountain climbers, and swing squats. Run or walk with a stroller: Utilize the storage compartment under the stroller for a blanket and extra layers. Chances are you will be working up a sweat and your child may be a little chilly. Be prepared with age appropriate toys, books, bubbles, and snacks. These items will help your child to be engaged and you will be able to get your walk or run in!
Walk to local shops, post office, and grocery store (if possible): Walk your way to health – mind, body and soul. 30 minutes a day of walking can increase attention and decision making, reduces lower back pain, strengthens calves, hips, hamstrings, quads, and keeps weight in check and improves fitness! Check out your city or town and get a heart pumping walk in at the same time.

Make space for a home gym: a small area in the bedroom can be transformed into a personal gym. Or perhaps you have a awkward entry way or mud room but is collecting clutter, put it to use! Place a large wicker basket in the corner and fill it with your yoga mat, foam roller, and resistance bands. Have a shelf or small table with space for towels, water bottle, a heart rate monitor, and a phone stand. Under your small table place the weights that you will be using right now. If you have several of various weights, put away ones you are not using currently. Only keep out what you are using. Keep the space clean and clear.
