I’m excited to be partnering with littleBits to share the Droid Inventor Kit with you guys. It is sure to be a hit with all age ranges that are fans of Star Wars. All opinions are my own.
Tomorrow is Force Friday y’all.
As a momma of two young boys it is not super easy for us to find things to do as a family that 1) actually keeps them both entertained 2) keeps them so entertained they stop wrestling each other longer than a few minutes. Our love of Star Wars and their partnership with littleBits has rocked.our.world (and in the best way)! When we got our littleBits Droid Inventor Kit in the mail I placed it on our kitchen counter and honestly forgot all about it. When I got the boys up from their naps they bounded down our stairs and as I walked past, they BOTH stopped and just stared. My eldest asked if this was for them and when I said yes they began squealing with happiness.
My husband was possibly (definitely) more excited than the boys and we embarked on our custom droid experience together as a family. We decided to set it out on our playroom table so that the boys could crowd around and so that we had plenty of space to see all of the components. I watched as they pulled each piece out of the box with wonder and giggled to myself at how much fun I knew this evening would be for each of us.
My hubby was equally excited, being as he is an engineer, to talk to them about what each of the electronic blocks did and how it worked in the droid. Setting it up was super easy and the directions in the box made things quicker than I expected. Before I knew it they had everything connected and were wanting to tell me which stickers they wanted me to put on R2 (Blue, No! Red, No—Blue).
We quickly proceeded to download the FREE Droid Inventor App that runs the whole thing and it worked as smoothly as we could have hoped for. My 4 year old was so excited that he downloaded it to his iPad and couldn’t have been more proud that he could control his very own custom R2D2 using his own device (his dad might have been a little proud too)! The app itself is helpful and walks you through every step of setup for the various things you can do.
There are lots of different modes that let you customize your droid just the way you like. Some of our faves include: the Self nav mode where it detects walls and blockades before it hits them, remote control mode which lets you drive R2D2 around however you’d like and Force mode where you wave your hands and use the force as the controls. You can even record your own voice with the app and add it to R2’s collection of beeps. littleBits seriously thought of everything for this toy.
If you need an idea for a kiddo birthday gift or even if you want to tuck one away to save for Christmas, you can find these right now at: Walmart, Apple Store, Amazon & littlebits.com for $99.95. One other thing we loved was that they have quite a few different missions and you can also reconfigure the droid a multitude of ways. I don’t know about you but I enjoy toys that my kids love playing with and that can be used for more than one kid. Tracking one down would be a huge win on this Force Friday! Turns out that this is just the droid you’re looking for!
