I’m doing something a little bit scary today. I’m playing fashion blogger.
You guys. I rarely post pictures of myself on this blog…let alone pictures of me “modeling” clothes. My current sense of style doesn’t really extend past pre-styled outfits from a handful of chain retailers or easy mix-and-match pieces that I can literally wear for years. It’s not that I don’t love clothes – I do! I love them very, very much. And I love shopping for them, too. It’s just that…these days, my fashion sense is more practical than fun. More budget-friendly than whim-fulfilling, and more laid-back than dressed-up.
So basically, sharing photos of myself on my blog wearing something other than my standard yoga pants or holey boyfriend jeans with a solid-colored three-quarter-length sleeve top is kind of…terrifying.
The girly girl in me, however…the one that lays mostly dormant these days…is squealing in delight over the custom dress I received from eShakti. So…go big or go home, right?! Get ready for some pictures, y’all.
eShakti is an online women’s apparel shop offering clothing from sizes 0-36W as well as customized clothing. Their prices range from around $45-75, which is about what I’d expect to pay for a dress in most stores – and that’s without the option to customize!
I’ve never bought a custom dress before, so I was unsure of how the process would work and how well the dress would actually fit. Using the very specific instructions (which were super helpful), I submitted my measurements online and chose my dress. The most exciting part was that I also got to pick my dress’s neckline, sleeves, hem length, and a few other little details (this dress is available with pockets as an option, for example).
I wanted something denim that I could wear for Fall, Spring, and Summer…so I went sleeveless, knowing I could easily add a cardigan for cooler weather. You can see the dress I chose here – it’s on sale for $48, and is only $7.50 to customize (AND…be sure to check out the eShakti code for my readers at the bottom of this post!).
It took me barely a week to receive my custom-made dress, and I am not kidding when I say I LOVE IT.
It was exactly what I was hoping for. It’s a beautiful piece of clothing – the fabric is light and swingy, and the colors are rich. I’m no seamstress, but I can tell when something is done right, and this dress is beautifully done!
And best of all? It’s a perfect fit.
I did not have to struggle to pull this dress over my head, thanks to a long zipper along the side. Once on, it fit in all the right places. No fabric clinging in awkward or uncomfortable spots, and I wasn’t tugging at my neckline to make it stay put.
I love the details – the colorblocking, the pleats, and maybe most of all – the back.
I did have to step out of my comfort zone for this post, but it was kind of fun (after the initial stress wore off!). I don’t wear dresses very often in my current life, and I don’t remember the last time I wore lipstick this dark. It’s good to step out of our little bubbles every now and then and try something different. Plus, I got to break out a pair of shoes I haven’t worn for at least three years. So there’s that, too. 😉
When’s the last time you dressed up, even just a little?
