Awhile back, I attended an event to learn about Enchanted Fairies and how they have raised over $600,000 for a local organization called Kidd’s Kids. We received an Enchanted Fairies photo package, and today I want to share all the details with you in an Enchanted Fairies review.
If you’re unfamiliar with Enchanted Fairies, here is the short version of what they do. Enchanted Fairies is a photo studio that provides stunning, one-of-a-kind magical fairy (or mermaid!) photos of babies and children.
Located at the Shops at Willow Bend mall in Plano, TX, Enchanted Fairies donates 100% of proceeds from every session fee and 100% of the profits from their annual calendar to Kidd’s Kids, which is a Dallas-based organization that provides trips to Disney World for families with kids that have life-altering conditions.
Anyone can book a session at Enchanted Fairies for just $25 (per kid) – and that comes with an 8×10 photo to keep. If you want digital copies of your photos or professional prints, the costs go up. You can see the full price menu here.
We booked Claire for a Mermaid session. You’ll need to book several weeks in advance, especially during the holiday season. It can take two months to get your pictures back (all photos are individually edited), so if you think this would a good Christmas gift for a grandparent (or yourself!), I seriously recommend booking in the summer so you have plenty of time to get an appointment and your images back.
We took Claire in on December 22nd and were told we’d have her pictures back in February. We actually recieved them in about three weeks, though!
Here’s what to expect during your Enchanted Fairies experience.
You have the option to purchase the “Glimmer” package for about $50. This includes full hair and makeup (and lots of glitter). You’ll want to get there about 30 minutes early if you have the Glimmer treatment so your child will have enough time for the full experience.
As soon as you arrive, your child can pick an outfit. Most outfits are a top and a tutu. These are beautiful, hand-made, high-quality items…not like something you’d buy at your local big box store. For the mermaid package, kids pick out their top and tail color and get some leggings to wear under the tail.
Claire and I were assigned a fitting room and I got her into the top (which is actually a corset that laces up the back) and leggings. After she was dressed she went to the hair and makeup room for her glam treatment. There are movies playing (she got to pick one) to keep the little ones distracted, and plenty of room for parents to sit. You can also take photos during this time.
Next, she got to walk the red carpet and I was able to take some more photos here. No mermaid tail yet!
Once she was dressed and ready, we moved to the mermaid set, where the photographer helped her into her tail. We spent about 30 minutes having her pictures taken in many different poses.
The photographer, the hair and makeup lady, and the front desk staff were all professional, kind, fun to work with, and very good with children (I got to see them work their magic on some other kids a few weeks earlier – you can read that story here).
There was a mom with a little baby (maybe 6 months?) having her pictures done at the same time and the baby was getting fussy. The photographer was SO patient and good with the baby!
When we were done, I set up an appointment for the next day to come back and see the photos (you’ll need to set up a separate appointment at least 24 hours later to see the pictures as they do some minor editing and pick out the best ones first).
When we arrived (I brought Claire to help me pick) the next day, we were seated in a room with a giant, floor-to-ceiling projector. They played all of the photos on a sweet slide show with pretty music that made me want to buy them all (well done, Enchanted Fairies). However, I had a three picture package that I was receiving so I knew I had to edit it down to three photos.
With the help of a photographer, we narrowed the photos down to a handful, and I picked from there.
During this time they took all of my feedback and made notes for the final edits, which are done by someone else.
(side note: Claire had the most feedback and requests!)
They also had examples available of all of the items we could buy (you can have a gorgeous storybook made with your child’s photos, for example). I stuck to the three included in my package, which I will probably print on canvas for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day gift for the grandparents (or maybe even Christmas next year).
If you choose the $25 package, you would pick one photo and receive an 8×10. This is a fun option if you want the experience (and the picture!) but don’t have a lot of money to spend on it. This is a very popular deal!
From there, I waited for our photos. Like I mentioned earlier, we had them in about three weeks and HOLY COW. They’re the ones you see here!
Our experience was nothing but positive. From the moment we entered the studio we had a very high-end experience, and the final product is top notch. It was a TON of fun for Claire. They also have options for boys!
