Springfield, Missouri, is a great size for a city. It’s small enough that you can easily go downtown for dinner without stressing too much about traffic and parking, and it’s large enough that they have lots of stuff going on and many places to visit.
We really experienced this when we went downtown to visit the Discovery Center, an interactive, hands-on museum for kids.
One of the first things that caught our attention was the Bed of Nails. The kids were terrified, so I took one for the team and jumped up on that thing. Here I am. On a bed of nails. And it was kind of awesome.
One of their favorite parts was the giant bubble maker. Making the bubbles was fun, but the really fun part was waiting for it to pop over their heads. And these were some big bubbles, so they made quite an impression when they popped!
It looks like we might have a skilled cashier on our hands here.
Every time we turned a corner or walked up a flight of stairs, we found something new. A giant mouth that we could walk through, interactive exhibits that taught about the human body, a science lab (a real one!), and kid-friendly solar system exhibits had us saying, “WOW!” over and over and over again.
Springfield surprised us with its little gems of beautiful locations and fun attractions, and this was no exception. The Discovery Center is a must-do activity if you are in Springfield with kids.
