Hello everyone! My name is Clare Gravolet, and I’m so excited to be able to talk with you today!
This summer has been a big one for me. I moved from Texas to Georgia, I got a fabulous job teaching 8th grade, and my husband and I bought our first house! In theory, I should be blissfully happy and ready to take on the world!
Unfortunately, this summer wasn’t all rainbows and butterflies. Along with all of those great changes came a lot of stress, poor eating and exercising habits, and a lot of shame and negative thoughts about my body. This kind of thing happens to a lot of women, so is it really that big of a deal? Yes! We should be putting effort into loving ourselves, not tearing ourselves down! And that’s what brings me to the topic of today’s post: summer body positivity!
Summer can be a difficult season when you’re not feeling your best. It seems like weight and size are thrown into our faces at every turn. Get Bikini Body Ready! Beach Body Summer Special! 10 Minutes to Your Best Beach Abs! Lose that Bloat and be Beach Ready in just 10 Days! Enough already.
Here’s some news for those guys: we already have bikini bodies, and they are awesome. Major companies and news outlets are starting to pick up on our body positive trend, and they’re sharing wonderful stories about strong women loving all aspects of themselves. Here are a few moments I would like to share with you:
BODY POSITIVE MOMENTS OF SUMMER 2015
First up we have…
Target Loves Every Body Campaign!
Target found five fashion bloggers with different body types and dressed them in fabulous swimwear designed by Zanna Rassi. I love how Target is embracing different body types, and they reached out to bloggers to model the clothing. Real women are beautiful!
Julie Bhosale: The New Mum’s Nutritionist
This fabulous blogger wrote a post about how she was fed up with the obsession of “bouncing back” after pregnancy. She wrote about her real struggles, the ones that are often left out by those media outlets covering stories about Kate Middleton and Jessica Alba.
It’s refreshing to read real stories about real people and what they go through to become mothers. It’s an incredible sacrifice for a beautiful child, and a pre-baby body is not something that should be casting a shadow over this special time. Go Julie!
Danielle Brooks’ Instagram Selfie
At first glance, this photo looks like nothing special. Orange is the New Black star Danielle Brooks looks great! But she mentioned that this picture was special to her. She usually works out in the gym with a shirt on and even banned herself from going shirtless, saying “until my body is perfect, I’m forbidden.”
On this day, she decided to practice self-love and proudly wear just her sports bra to the gym. She is determined to change the way she relates to her body both mentally and physically. Love this girl!
#MAYISEEMYOWNBEAUTY
This hashtag comes from Kimber Simpkins’ campaign for her new memoir Full, an inspiring true story about her journey to overcome eating disorders and body shame through yoga and Buddhism.
Now it’s time for you to share your thoughts with me! What body positive trends have you seen and loved this summer? What body positive things have you done for yourself recently?

The world of modeling has grown way more inclusive this year. We`ve seen the rise of several out-of -the-box body type models. And many brave women have shared the photo-shoots where they celebrate the beauty of their bodies. Women all over are coming to see things like Pin-up photography not as men sexualizing them to get a photo, but as away to kick back and feel beautiful…to get pictures to keep for themselves that highlight what amazing women they are. Just this week a photo-shoot went around from a woman who is paralyzed. I`m trying to break an age barrier, I`ve just turned 35 and for agencies the model age cut off is..you guessed it 35. But I just received my Visa to work in Canada and I fully intend to apply to every agency I can. There is no right size, skinny-shaming & fat-shaming are all bad. Let people be who they want to be, be that natural or surgically altered. We are all beautiful.

Hi Clare – nice to meet you! And I LOVE this! I am working on this too – losing weight and still staying positive. Thanks for the reminders!
