Last week, I had the chance to learn about 3D Mammography. This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of the Mad Hatter Tea Party Event hosted by Methodist Richardson Medical Center. Get all the details on 3D Mammography and why you need to know about it below.
Both my grandmother and my great-grandmother had breast cancer. And my cousin Amy, who is younger than me (!!), has also had breast cancer. I think you’d be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn’t have a friend or family member who has dealt with breast cancer, and I think you’d agree with me that it’s one ugly disease.
Last week, I attended the Mad Hatter Tea Party event hosted by Methodist Richardson Medical Center in Richardson, TX. Right down the road from me, I drive by Methodist Richardson several times a week – but this was my first to go inside and check out the building and all the amazing services it offers.
The Mad Hatter Tea Party was a beautiful, inspiring, and elegant event built around the amazing women who have had breast cancer. It was a time to celebrate the survivors and women who were on their cancer journeys, and as I watched these ladies walking the pink carpet, I kept thinking about my cousin, my grandmother, and her mother before her…and how much technology has changed in the years since my great-grandmother was diagnosed.
Methodist Richardson had transformed a wing of the building into a colorful, lively tea party. The Mad Hatter Tea Party was a FREE event, which made it even more awesome…guests were treated to chair massages, makeovers, had the chance to make colorful hats, and picked from several crafts.
After we made hats and decorated goblets, we enjoyed the perfect tea service (complete with lots of desserts and an impeccably-done Alice in Wonderland theme) and listened to keynote speaker, Jenevieve Hughes, MD, renowned breast cancer surgeon, as she talked about breast cancer today – and how 3D Mammography is changing things for the better.
3D Mammography brings new technology to breast cancer detection and care. The new 3-D technology, called tomosynthesis, takes multiple images of the breast at different angles, then reconstructs them in the computer to give the doctor a 3-D view of the breast.
Here are just a few reasons why 3D Mammography might be better for you than traditional analog mammography:
3D Mammography can detect cancer much earlier. This can be lifesaving!
Patients have more treatment options when they use 3D Mammography. Because cancer can be caught so early, a patient might be able to avoid chemo or a mastectomy.
3D Mammography provides greater accuracy. It’s able to pinpoint size, shape, and location of potential problems…especially in women with dense breasts.
Methodist Richardson offers this new technology to its patients (super good to know if you live in Dallas!).

If you’re in Dallas, be sure to check out the Mad Hatter Tea Party event at Methodist Richardson Medical Center next year!
