It’s been awhile since I’ve talked about the 21 Day Fix on here. I know y’all love 21 Day Fix recipes and posts, though, so today I’ve got something fun for you with this 21 Day Fix pasta recipe with broccoli & chicken sausage created for me by Beachbody coach Emily over at EmilyJGoodman.com. I’ve also updated it with Weight Watchers points, for all three WW plans!
This recipe is perfect for dinner, makes great leftovers, and is awesome for lunch the next day, too!
Here’s what you need to make it:
Serves: 4 (serving size = 1.5 cups)
- 1 small head of broccoli
- 2 tsp olive oil
- 1 9oz package of pasta (I used RP’s Gluten Free Fusilli)
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 package of sweet Italian chicken sausages, sliced into rounds
- 2 cloves of garlic, minced
- 1/4 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 cup of fresh parsley, chopped
- Himalayan pink salt (or sea salt) to taste
- Freshly ground black pepper (to taste)
Pasta with Broccoli & Chicken Sausage
Ingredients
- 2 tsp extra virgin olive oil
- 4 c broccoli chopped
- 9 oz whole wheat pasta
- 1 onion diced
- 4 sweet Italian chicken sausage links
- 2 garlic cloves minced
- 1/4 c grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 c parsley fresh, chopped
- sea salt to taste
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Chop the broccoli into florets and steam for 3-5 minutes until vibrant green but not mushy. Remove from the pot and set aside.
- Fill the same pot of water and bring to a boil. Cook the pasta according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.
- Meanwhile dice the onion, mince the garlic, and slice the chicken sausage into small rounds.
- Heat the olive oil in a large skillet over a medium heat.
- Add the onion and cook for 5 minutes until translucent.
- Add the chicken sausage and cook for 6 minutes, stirring halfway through to flit the sausage so it browns on each side.
- Add the garlic and the steamed broccoli to the pan. Cook for 1 minute until the garlic becomes fragrant.
- Add the cooked pasta.
- Top with grated Parmesan cheese and fresh chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper according to your taste.

Loved working with you for this recipe and sharing about your beautiful planners on my site!
Thanks so much Emily – this recipe is so perfect!! Loved working with you! 🙂
I have got to try this recipe!
So much healthy goodness in one meal!
Looks amazing!
I love sausage!
Thanks for the recipe!
Michelle
Yum. This is my kind of pasta. I pinned for later.
This looks wonderful and I love that you used Himalayan pink salt.
How many ounces is the sausage?
How many servings does this make?
This looks so delish! Thanks for sharing with us at Funtastic Friday.
In your 21 day fix container breakdown, you list 1 spoon. I’m assuming olive oil, but I don’t see that in recipe ingredient list. It’s in your directions. How much olive oil?
Also is chix sausage raw or cooked kind? They sell both at store. Kind of assuming precooked b/c it may be hard to slice raw sausage. TIA!
It looks like she forgot the olive oil in the ingredient list, but it’s for sauteeing the onion…I would use a few teaspoons (just as much as you need to get the onions sauteed). And yes, the pre-cooked sausage! 🙂
How many calories are in a serving?
I’m not sure, Amanda! The 21 Day Fix program uses containers for measurement and doesn’t track calories…so I haven’t figured it out!
Hi – I tried this recipe myself tonight – added a couple of extra ingredients (bacon pieces and chopped Kale) and it was Winner WINNER Chicken Dinner!!
Thanks for putting it up.
Oooooh good idea…bcon makes everything better!
What brand of chicken sausage did you use? I’m having a hard time finding sausage to use in recipes such as these, without a lot of additives. Thanks!
I used Alfresco Chicken Sausages!
Tried this tonight. It was a little bland/dry for my liking. I used wheat pasta so I needed more flavor. Will definitely try again with a little something extra.
I was thinking about this recipe the other day and I think I might add some roasted red peppers or roasted tomoatoes! That might do it.
Hi, just tried this recipie tonight! I used Al Fresco Chicken Sausage-Smoked Andouille. A lot of flavor and kick! I will definitely be making this again. Thanks.
I made this tonight and my family loved it!
I have a question about portion sizes though. My daughter prefers her meals “deconstructed” so I didn’t mix the sausage and broccoli in to the pasta, and was confused as to how I should portion it out. I am new to 21 day fix but this is my understanding: A green container is roughly 1 cup, a red is roughly 3/4 and a yellow is 1/2 cup. If the serving size is 1.5 cups, how do the portions break down to 1 red, 1 green and 2 yellow? The rest (blue/tsp) I understand. For those portions, the serving size would be closer to 2 3/4 cup, right? That seems off as well though, size wise.
Would love to know how it works!
Thanks!
I’ll have to ask Emily, who created the recipe, if there is something we’re missing…but after looking through it again, yes, I believe you have the serving size correct (2 3/4 cups). I’m going to ask Emily for some clarification on this – thanks for asking!
Were you able to follow up with the recipe and how the portions end up? Thank you!!
For your daughter, if she likes everything deconstructed that makes it super easy…just measure out each ingredient in the proper container and count accordingly.
I have been doing the Fix nutrition for over 2 years now so I have gotten comfortable eyeballing my portions and containing containers based off that but I can see how this is confusing for someone new to the Fix! You are correct in your container equivalents to cup measurements…however, when I finished cooking it and broke it into servings it was right around 1.5-2 cups each. So we can adjust this recipe to reflect 2 cups as the serving size which will hopefully help clear up confusion. Remember, the chicken sausage and even the broccoli do shrink a bit in size when you cook them too!!
Hello
This recipe looks delicious and I’m going to make it. I’m confused on the container count, it says it equals one blue per serving. But the whole recipe uses 1/4 cup of parmesan cheese which is one blue. So each serving wouldn’t be one blue. Please let me know.
Ohmygoodness. You’re totally right. Thanks for letting me know – I can’t believe no one has mentioned that before!
Hi, I’m starting the 21 day fix & am confused as to how to measure out mixed meals (like this one). If you don’t mind, can you break down how 1.5 cup serving: 1 red, 1 green, 2 yellow, .25 blue & 1 teaspoon? I’m losing my mind over things like this & hate to think I’ll be stuck to steamed veggies or salad w/meat :(.
Thanks in advance & for posting this recipe. This will be made next week for lunch/dinner!
Hi there, how many servings does this recipe make? Looks delish!!
You should get about 4-5 servings! 🙂
Where do you find this type of noodles? Can you show a picture of it.
These are whole wheat rotini and you can find them at any grovery store! 🙂 You could even order them from Amazon.
I found brown rice pasta to use instead but it’s a dry, would I still use 9 oz?
Hi Sorry to ask again but I was planning to make this for supper tonight. I found dry brown rice noodles that are fixed approved that I can use in place but I just don’t know how much? The recipe calls for 9 oz of fresh pasta. Thanks in advance!
Hi Jill! I’m sorry I didn’t answer this sooner, I missed this comment! Yes, yours should work fine. The word “fresh” is confusing…I’ll take it out of the post. 🙂
