21 Day Fix Homemade Applesauce (Instant Pot & Crock Pot) / Weight Watchers

This 21 Day Fix homemade applesauce recipe is so good, y’all. I’ve included directions for making it in the Instant Pot and the Crock Pot…the Instant Pot makes it faster but the Crock Pot makes your house smell like apples, so…win/win either way you go!

21 Day Fix Homemade Instant Pot Applesauce wih Crock Pot Instructions, Too!

When I was a kid, we visited my grandmother in Portland, Oregon, every year. She always made the most amazing applesauce from the apples that fell from her giant old apple trees in the back yard. The apples were small, hard, and bitter…she would tell us that the only thing they were good for was applesauce. And good for applesauce, they were. I can still taste it now…and what I wouldn’t give to have her make me a fresh batch of it today!

21 Day Fix Homemade Applesauce

Awhile back, I asked my mom for the recipe becuase I wanted to share it with you guys. I asked my mom why it was SO GOOD and she laughed and said, “because of all the sugar!” So, today’s homemade applesauce recipe is going to be a little different from the applesauce of my youth, ha. But I can promise you, you will not be disappointed…or miss the sugar!

  • Apples (you can use any kind – I used a mix of gala, honey crisp, and Fuji – all were on sale at Aldi)

Is it easy to make homemade applesauce?

Yes, it’s easy to make your own applesauce! It is a little bit time-consuming…it takes some effort to peel and core all those apples. But it’s totally worth it. Also, I kind of like doing the work…I get into a groove and try to imagine what it would have been like to live in the old days when this was my only option for applsauce.

Of course, it helps if you have a cute little applesauce helper!

Can I make applesauce in the Instant Pot?

You betcha. Here are a couple of notes before you make it, though:

Instant Pot – READ THIS BEFORE YOU MAKE IT: This recipe was made using a 6qt Instant Pot. If your pot is larger, you’ll need to adjust accordingly.

Also, altitude can affect your cook time – here’s a really helpful post about how to adjust your pot for altitude.

What is the best Crock Pot applesauce recipe?

This recipe is super easy to make in the Crock Pot, too. What I love about the Crock Pot is that your whole house will smell amazing once this starts cooking!

What is the best sugar-free applesauce recipe?

Let’s talk about the lack of processed sugar in this applesauce for a second. I used honey to sweeten it, but you know what…if you use sweet apples you could probably even bypass the honey.

Can I freeze applesauce?

You can definitely freeze this applesauce! I totally remember pulling it out of the freezer when we’d go to Oregon and not being able to wait until it had all thawed to eat it. It was just as good, even in ice form. lol.

The 21 Day Fix program is always changing, and while I do my very best and never want to mess up (perfectionist, yo) please always double check the container counts yourself. Sometimes/usually it’s late at night when I write these posts.

Container counts, per serving (serving is 1/2 cup):

OK, and can we just hear it for these a-dor-a-ble mason jar lids from The Pioneer Woman that I found at Walmart?! I mean, really…the CUTEST.

Ingredients

  • 12 apples you can use any kind - I used a mix of gala, honey crisp, and Fuji - all were on sale at Aldi
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp pumpkin pie spice or cinnamon
  • 1/2 c water

Instructions

  • Peel and core your apples.
  • Dump all the slices into you Instant Pot or Crock Pot. Add the lemon, honey, water, and cinnamon (or pumpkin pie spice, PUMPKIN, YAY).

Directions

  • Instant Pot - READ THIS BEFORE YOU MAKE IT: This recipe was made using a 6qt Instant Pot. If your pot is larger, you'll need to adjust accordingly. Altitude might also affect cook time.
  • Place the lid on the Instant Pot. Close and make sure it's in the lock position, and that your valve is set to "seal." Set the pot to "Pressure Cook" (or manual) for 8 minutes. Once done, let the pressure release naturally for 5 minutes, then quick release.
  • Mash up applesauce (you can do it by hand with a fork or mashing tool, or use an immersion blender if you want it chunk-free). Once cooled, put in fridge to chill. You can also blend for a more consistent texture (I like it chunky though!).
  • You'll want to eat it when it's warm because it will smell so good, but if you can wait until it's chilled you will be rewarded. It's just so darn delicious.

Crock Pot Instructions

  • Crock Pot - Cook on low heat for 6 hours. Mash up applesauce. Once cooled, put in fridge to chill.

This recipe looks great! How long would it keep in the fridge if I didn’t freeze it?
Thanks so much
