I promised my kids a movie night last week, and when it came time to watch a movie, they started bickering – as usual – about what we would watch. I already had a movie picked out, though. We were going to watch The Little Prince on Netflix.
I’m a member of the Netflix #StreamTeam, which means I’m a Netflix ambassador and get to share all of my binge watching experiences and television obsessions with you, so you can binge watch, too. Today I’m sharing this sweet printable quote card from Netflix, as well as my review of The Little PrinceAND a printable postcard for you, too!
You guys. The Little Prince was magical.
Even Jack, who is seven-years-old and insisted he wouldn’t like this movie (“it’s animated, Mom…I don’t like animated movies!”) was captivated by the beautiful art and compelling story.
The movie follows a little girl as she moves to a new neighborhood with her micro managing mother, who chooses a house in an undesirable location so the little girl can get into the school district of her mother’s dreams. The little girl befriends her elderly neighbor when he recognizes her need for a friend, and through the story of The Little Prince, we see the little girl step outside of her tightly managed and over-planned life into a world of imagination and possibility.
The story is sweet. The animation, which changes as the movie transitions between the story of the little girl and the story of The Little Prince, is stunning.
My kids watched the movie without a single complaint. I may have shed a tear or two.
I loved one of the quotes so much that I turned it into a printable postcard (this prints as a 5×7 – it would also be great framed!).
I asked the kids, after the movie was over, what they thought. “The story was kind of weird, but I liked it” said Jack, and I can see what he means. At times it felt a little abstract, but in a creative, artsy kind of way…and I think it was a little outside the norm of a “typical” kid movie – but this was a good thing.
I expect they’ll ask to watch this again, and I would gladly watch it with them!
The Little Prince is available for streaming on Netflix now.
You can also take the The Grown Up Test to see how grown up you really are (I’m only a little bit of a grown-up, thank goodness!).
