It’s PARTY SEASON! I’m not kidding when I say that, either…the next few months are booked with parties, holiday events, and family get-togethers. It’s awesome, but it’s also a lot of work. And with everything else we have going on in our lives, it’s easy to get stressed and burnt out during the holiday season.
But this year? I have no intentions of letting that happen.
I’ve got plans, y’all! I have a Christmas shopping strategy in place, a cute sweater on call for any festive occasion, and a list of easy party food in my back pocket. Basically, we’re ready to take these holidays from awesome to EXTRA AWESOME.
Take that, holidays.
We’re kicking off our holiday season with something that has a little kick all on its own. These Sweet Glaze Bacon Jalapeño Hillshire Farm® Beef Lit’l Smokies® are entirely easy to make and will be gone before you know it…these were a huge hit.
To be totally honest, I don’t like spicy food (and neither do my kids, much to my husband’s dismay)…so be sure to check out the bottom of this recipe to see what I did for all the picky people.
The real “secret” to these delectable snacks is in the sauce. A few weeks ago, we had a neighborhood potluck and everyone brought something. One of the neighbors brought some meatballs with amazing flavor. And I ran with that when I made these…I knew I needed that sauce all over these little bites of deliciousness.
Here’s what you need to make your Sweet Glaze Bacon Jalapeño Beef Lit’l Smokies (this will make between 50-60, and I found everything I needed at Walmart):
- Beef Lit’l Smokies (these are in the deli meat section at your local Walmart, right next to the bacon) – these come in two sizes. For this recipe, I bought the larger size
- Jalapeños – we used 1 large jalapeño for every 9 Lit’l Smokies – this may vary based on the size of your jalapeños!
- Great Value Concord Grape Jelly
- Chili Sauce (you’ll find this next to the barbecue sauce)
- Toothpicks (although, I think you could do without and be fine)
- Cookie sheet and foil
Turn the oven on to 350 and cover a cookie sheet in foil.
De-seed and julienne your jalapeños. Cut them so they are roughly the same length as the Beef Lit’l Smokies smoked sausages.
In a small bowl, mix equal parts chili sauce and grape jelly. I used half a cup of each for this, but you could get by with less than half…and you’ll want to mix another batch of sauce for dipping, so start small and make more if you need it.
Grab one cut piece of bacon and wrap a Beef Lit’l Smokies smoked sausage and a slice of jalapeño up inside. Stick a toothpick through it to hold it all together and place on your cookie sheet.
If you’re making these for non-spice lovers, just make them without the jalapeños (be sure to use a different cutting board if you do, though…the jalapeño is strong and I could still taste it on a few of the non-spicy ones).
Bake for 15-20 minutes at 350, then turn the oven up to 400 and bake for an additional five minutes or so to get the bacon crispier (I think I left mine in for closer to 8 minutes at 400, but you’ll just have to look at them and see how they’re doing).
Put them on a plate to let them cool a bit.
Mix up another batch of sauce for dipping.
You can find everything you need to make these at Walmart. We have a Walmart right down the road, and I bet we visit it twice a week – it’s perfect because it’s close, it’s affordable, it has everything I need, and it caters to my impulse buying, too (you guys should see the adorable bowls I picked up when I was there earlier this week…because one can never have too many floral bowls, right?!).
Having everything I need in one place at a price I can afford means those last-minute trips to the store are easier and less-stressful…and that means I have more time and energy to spend with my family.
And that’s really what the holidays are all about.
