10 Beachy Books for Kids

Even though we don’t live near a beach, I still associate it with summer. Maybe it’s because I grew up near the beach, or maybe it’s because beaches are just awesome. Either way, I’ve got the beach on my mind. 

Today I’m going to share some of our favorite beach books for kids with you, because the next best thing to visiting the beach is writing about it, right?

A favorite of ours – How I Became a Pirate!

  1. How I Became a Pirate by Melinda Long and David Shannon – This book is so fun! Jeremy joins his family for a typical dayat the beach, but is picked up by pirates and learns their pirate-y ways.
  2. Pete the Cat: Pete at the Beach by James Dean – So basically, if it’s about Pete the Cat, we like it in this household. Pete the Cat is awesome.
  3. Fancy Nancy: Sand Castles and Sand Palaces by Jane O’Connor and Robin Preiss Glasser – Beachy fun for the Fancy Nancy lovers!
  4. Curious George Goes to the Beach by Margret and H.A. Ray – Curious George goes to the beach – need I say more?
  5. Where is Baby’s Beach Ball?: A Lift-the-Flap Book by Karen Kats – Babies and toddlers love lift-the-flap books and they love balls, too – perfect combo!
  6. 52 Fun Things to do at the Beach by Lynn Gordon – Spending a long week at the beach, or live near one? Here are ideas to keep you busy once the general excitement of the waves and sand wears off.
  7. What Lives in a Shell? by Kathleen Weidner Zoehfeld – My kids love shells…with this book, you can make a trip to the beach educational!
  8. Surfer Chick by Kristy Dempsey – A surfing chicken? Yes, please.
  9. Walter the Farting Dog: Banned from the Beach by William Kotwinkle – My kids LOVE Walter the Farting Dog. Add in this book, he’s back to his farting ways.
  10. The Circus Ship by Chris Van Dusen – A boat full of circus animals is shipwrecked, and the animals find themselves charming the locals on a nearby island.

    Great choices! A few I don’t know, but need to. “How I Became a Pirate” a real kid favorite.
